Scouts give drought hit community a boost

Twelve-thousand scouts and guides are returning home tomorrow after spending the past 10 days camped in the small town of Elmore, north of Bendigo.

They have been taking part in a range of activities in north-central Victoria as part of the 21st Australian Scout Jambouree.

The Elmore Field Days committee which has been hosting the event says the site has been a big hit and other events are showing interest in the location.

President Derek Shotton says the jamboree has been a big financial boost for the drought affected community.

"A lot of them that weren't involved in the selection did have their doubts, they thought we're going to a paddock, but I've had [a] really good response, they love the site, they've loved the activities," Mr Shotton said
