There has been a mass exodus from the Australian jamboree site at Elmore after the end of the 12-day event.

Twelve-thousand Scouts left the site north of Bendigo for destinations around the world, within 18 hours of the closure on Friday night.

Spokeswoman Cassandra Leslie says the event was farewelled with a concert and the official closing of the jamboree by Victoria's Governor and chief Scout, Professor David de Kretser.

"We had some of our contingents leave within probably half-an-hour of the closing ceremony finishing and then they were leaving throughout the morning," she said.

"It was very weird to watch.

"It goes from one extreme where everything's full and there's children walking everywhere, the Scouts everywhere, and then to be there at 3:00pm [AEDT] the next day and almost every tent is down."
